GEO, explained

What Generative Engine Optimization is, why it matters, and how a Legimens audit works.

GEO is the practice of making a brand visible and accurately represented inside AI answer engines like ChatGPT, Perplexity, Claude, and Gemini. Instead of ranking a link on a results page, the goal is to be surfaced in the generated answer, cited as a source, and described correctly.

They share foundations (crawlable content, structured data, authority), but the success metric differs. SEO competes for ranked links on a search results page. GEO competes to be named, cited, and described accurately inside an AI-generated answer, where only a few sources make the cut.

A growing share of research starts in an AI answer that summarizes a handful of sources and leaves the rest out. If the engines cannot ground your brand in trustworthy sources, you simply do not appear in that shortlist, no matter how well you rank in classic search.

Every audit covers ChatGPT, Perplexity, Claude, and Gemini. At greater depth we add Copilot, Grok, and Mistral's Le Chat. We report each engine separately, because the same brand can be visible on one and absent on another.

They favor entities they can ground. That means content their crawlers can actually reach, clear structured data and entity signals, and consistent, corroborating sources across the web. Weak or contradictory signals push an engine toward your competitors instead.

An engine can name your brand and still get it wrong: describe the wrong company, confuse you with a similarly named one, or invent details. A Legimens audit separates presence from accuracy and logs every misidentification or hallucination, because being described incorrectly can be worse than being absent.

We measure six scored dimensions (visibility, authority, citability, sentiment, technical, and entity) across a fixed set of prompts and engines. You receive a composite GEO score and a prioritized action plan, delivered as a client report with the underlying data.

Per engine and against your competitors, across the same prompt set, and reported with confidence intervals rather than a single headline number. A point estimate from one run is treated as directional, not as a precise score.

The technical fixes (crawler access, structured data, entity setup) are largely one-time. Visibility itself follows content depth, entity anchors, and earned authority, which mature over months. We set that expectation honestly rather than promise a quick win.

With a discovery call. Engagements are remote and run in English or French. We scope the audit to your brand, run it, and walk you through the findings and the plan.
